My name is Rachael La Barbera. I choose to share my full name on this blog instead of using a pseudonym like some other kink bloggers because I am very "out" about my personal sexual preferences. I intend to make a career out of my sex-positive beliefs and know that I can not teach people to love themselves if I am not open and honest about who I am. I do, however, acknowledge that some individuals do not have the luxury of being honest about themselves. I'm doing my best to change that.
At the beginning of the 2012/2013 academic year, I created and began leading a kink-positive student organization at K College named Love Your Own Way. My personal goal was to ensure that kink and BDSM got the attention it deserved on campus and that every student at K felt as if they were being represented in our march towards sexual freedom and equality. I stand together with the Sexual Health Awareness Group (SHAG) in educating the campus on issues regarding sexual health and healthy relationships.
I do not neatly fit into a box in terms of my gender and sexuality, even though I tend to "pass" as a cisgendered, heterosexual female. In truth, I identify with all the following labels (even though some might seem conflicting): pansexual, demisexual, genderfluid, agender, submissive, sadist.
In terms of how kink fits into my life, I tend to view it as something that I live 24/7. Regardless of the situation I'm in, inside and outside the bedroom, I view my partner primarily as my Sir or Papa and secondarily as my little one, puppy, or bottom. I try to actively participate in the local kink community by attending classes, parties, and munches. I hope that one day I will be a mentor to many, just like the people I now look to for support and guidance.
